Digital PDF patterns for crafting a leather plague doctor mask and matching top hat. Includes clear layouts for historical cosplay.
About the plague doctor hat:
- The video tutorial is at https://youtu.be/40DiNscVwMg
- The pattern comes in all sizes and you need to measure your head circumference ( from your forehead to the back of your head ) when picking the right pattern.
- We used 6 oz ( 2 mm ) vegetable tanned leather for this one but you may use whatever weight you prefer. If you wish for the brim to be a bit stiffer then you may opt for 3 mm ( 6-7 oz ) or simply stiffer leather.
- Along with mostly using saddle stitching, the project employs the using of cross stitching so make sure you can reproduce it before buying.
- The project is dyed using Fiebing's Pro Black dye and sealed with Acrylic Resolene.
About the plague doctor mask:
- The video tutorial is at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZfX4lVsS0c&t=2s
- The pattern comes in all sizes and you need to measure your head circumference ( from your forehead to the back of your head ) when picking the right size. The head ball studs that are used on the straps also provide some adjustment range so you will definitely achieve a reasonable fit.
- We used 6 oz ( ~ 2 mm ) vegetable tanned leather for the entire project along with ten, 7 mm cap sized rivets for securing the lenses and another five, 9 mm cap sized rivets for attaching the straps.
- You will also require 2-4 head ball studs, long enough to pass through 3 layers of leather.
- Fiebing's dye and Acrylic Resolene is what used to dye and finish the leather but you may pick pre dyed leather as well.
- For making the lenses you will require any type of 2-3 mm thick acrylic material but we bought a cheap photo filter set which comes with 24 pieces of different shades and tints and it's been great value for money.
đź’ˇ The absolute minimum tools you'll need for this project are a cutter ( box opener ), a metal ruler, a mallet, a 2 and a 4 mm punch, two blunt needles and a cutting mat. We use masking tape to prepare the pattern and always sew with 1 mm waxed thread. That's short and sweet but please PM us for more info if you're just starting out.
đź’ˇYou may print this pattern at Actual size on any of the following paper types: US Letter, A4-A0, Legal and Ledger / Tabloid by selecting the US_Letter format from your printing options.
